Greetings from the Garden! August has arrived, and this summer has certainly given our gardens a lot to talk about! Between the warm temperatures and smoky skies, it has been a challenging stretch for gardeners across the Gorge. We know many of you have been working a little harder to keep your plants happy, and we’ve been right there with you, watering, shading, and keeping a close eye on everything in the garden. The good news? Your garden can absolutely make it through the rest of summer. A little extra protection can go a long way right now. Shade cloth can help take the edge off the afternoon sun, mulch helps keep soil cool and moist, and adjusting your watering routine can make a big difference when temperatures climb. And when the smoke rolls in, remember that your plants need a little care too. We’ve been spending plenty of time in the nursery this month figuring out what is thriving, what needs a little extra attention, and what we can recommend for your garden at home. If you’re not sure what your plants need right now, come see us! We’re always happy to walk through it with you. August is a funny time in the garden. Summer is still in full swing, but little hints of fall are starting to sneak in. There are vegetables to harvest, flowers to enjoy, and plenty of time left to make the most of the season. So keep watering, keep watching, and most importantly, keep enjoying your garden. We’re right there with you. With love from our little corner of the garden, - Jon, Hollie & the Good News Gardening Crew
